2014-S Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarter 100-Coin Bag – San Francisco Mint

Not Minted for Circulation!

Description
These are circulating quality coins (“business strike”) minted on the main production floor of the San Francisco Mint and bearing the “S” mint mark.  “S” mint mark America the Beautiful quarters are minted for the numismatic market (collectors and investors).  Though these are legal tender coins of circulating quality, America the Beautiful coins from the San Francisco Mint are never released into circulation.

All of these 100-coin mint bags are still sealed in protective white mint boxes, as shown in photo.  These boxes are all date stamped “07/29/14”.  The time stamps on these boxes range from “11:32:49” to “11:39:07”.

The Great Sand Dunes National Park quarter is the fourth of 2014 and the 24th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.  Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve has the tallest dunes in North America as the centerpiece of the site’s diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra.  These can be experienced through hiking, sand sledding, splashing in Medano Creek and watching wildlife.   The Great Sand Dunes National Park was first established as a national site on March 17, 1932.

The reverse design features a father and son playing in the sand next to the creek bed.  The distinctive mountains and sand dunes are featured in the background.  Inscriptions are GREAT SAND DUNES, COLORADO, 2014 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.  Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Program
The United States Mint launched the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010. The 12-year initiative includes 56 quarters featuring reverse designs depicting some of our most cherished national parks and other national sites. The United States Mint will issue five new quarter designs per year, with one final design in 2021.
