In spring 2012, the United States Mint issued a special 2-coin set celebrating the 75th anniversary of the San Francisco Mint. These sets were available for only 4 weeks. Each set consisted of one proof coin and one reverse proof coin struck at the San Francisco Mint and bearing the S mint mark – a rarity in the Silver Eagle series. Reverse proof coins are always in high demand, and a reverse proof with the S mint mark is especially desirable. This coin, taken from one of the 2-coin sets, has been professionally graded and certified by PCGS, the pre-eminent grading and certification service worldwide. It has been certified PR69 (Proof 69), designating a near perfect coin. This coin additionally carries a John Mercanti signature First Strike label.
