Description
A trilogy of parental delights:  The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may have centuries of royal traditions behind them, but as they welcome their first-born into their arms, their love, devotion and aspirations will be universally linked to the thoughts and emotions that have defined parenthood throughout the ages and around the world.

Sweet dreams: Days and nights revolve around sleep and feedings as baby's every need becomes paramount. No room has ever commanded as much careful planning as the nursery, where baby's joy and comfort in this special space fall second only to the room's outward expression of a parent's adoration, care and love.

Tender bonds: Little babies are irresistible; the desire to comfort and connect through touch—and the delight when a tiny hand wraps around one's finger. "Holding hands" will never be the same. With baby, it is far more powerful; a vessel for nurturing the love between parent and child, child and parent, husband and wife, family.

A hopeful future: Every parent struggles with hope and worry when welcoming a newborn. While preparing a child for a future role as monarch may be a daunting task, the open and carefree way babies embrace every new experience serves as a compelling reminder of the unconquerable power of life itself.

Description
One of North America's most common rabbit species, the brown and grey-colored
eastern cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) can be found in rural and urban areas within southern Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba.  While gardeners and farmers may bemoan the cottontail's appetite for flowers and vegetables, animal lovers of all ages delight in the sight of this mammal.  With its cotton ball-like tail, it forages and scampers through green spaces, yards, and grassy fields.

Cottontails are solitary animals that are most active from dusk until dawn.  Out of necessity, they're fast!  Their quick bursts of speed and a zigzag running pattern is one of the species' few defense mechanisms against such predators as hawks, owls, coyotes, weasels, and humans.

Remarkably, young rabbits (known as kits) are born blind and largely hairless, with a birth weight of less than 28 grams each.  In preparation for the birth, the female (or doe) creates a shallow nest in the ground and lines it with her fur.  In the wild, the doe can deliver up to seven litters per year throughout her three- to five-year lifespan.  Each litter averages five kits.  Despite their vulnerability at birth, these young cottontails grow quickly.  By the seventh week, they're ready to venture out into the world all on their own.

A wonderful gift to begin a young person's coin collection, and a unique learning tool that teaches about wildlife.

Special features:
·        The beautifully detailed two-dollar coin is only available in this collection, which also includes Canada's other 2014 circulation coins, but all bearing the distinct lined background of a specimen finish.
·        The 2014 Special Edition Specimen Set is the 5th set in the Royal Canadian Mint's young wildlife series.  (Other set’s in stock.  Contact us for information.)
·        The finish on these coins combines brilliant and frosted relief over a lined background. No other mint in the world offers coins with this kind of finish.
·        Each set comes protected by a customized beauty box that features the heartwarming image of two baby rabbits.
·        A striking addition to any Canadiana or nature-themed collection.
·        The maximum mintage is limited to only 17,500 sets worldwide.

Design:
Designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc, the image on the $2 bimetallic coin is of two young eastern cottontail rabbits, are rendered in exquisite detail in a three-quarter portrait.  Kept relatively hidden by the tall grass and vegetation that surrounds them, these furry cottontails sit quietly as they take in the scents, sights, and sounds of their environment.

Packaging:
These coins come in a beautiful book-style packaging with removable lens and serialized certificate.  It also includes a CD lens concept with maroon outer cover and custom beauty box.
